I'm Riding For
Addi, Natalie, Rachel, Allison, Sarah, John, and Joan

This year I ride in the Great Cycle Challenge not only for my wife Joan who has survived cancer of the throat twice, but also for a young lady whose story gives Joan a great deal of inspiration and motivation. Joan has followed Addi's Journey on Instagram for the past couple of years. It is the story of a brave young eight-year-old girl who has already experienced more challenges in her life than most adults face in a lifetime. When she was only two, Addi was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Cancer. Over the course of the past several years she lost both of her biological parents, an aunt, and a grandfather. You can read about Addi's Journey on this website: https://addisjourney.com/welcome-to-addis-journey/ While this ride and fundraising campaign is to benefit children fighting cancer, I am also motivated by the struggles of those adults close to me who are also waging their own battles against different forms of cancer. * Natalie Althaus is a beloved daughter-in law who is fighting breast cancer. * Rachel Bredfeldt is the sister of my daughter-in-law, Lisa. She is fighting cancers of the colon, breast, and liver. * Allison Wrenn is my sister-in-law who is fighting colon cancer. * Sarah Stewart is a dear friend who is fighting a form of cancer in her brain. * John Little is continuing to fight his battle against prostate cancer. * Last, but certainly not least, is my wife, Joan, who has been courageously dealing with the side effects of the various treatments she has received for cancers of the throat. Each of the above friends and family members have courageously sought the difficult treatments that have permitted them to continue to live and contribute to the lives of those around them. None of them would still be alive were it not for the decades of medical research that have led to the life-saving treatments that have received. The work is not finished. Please help by making a donation.
My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.

Let's Do This
6 Aug 2025I first rode in the Great Cycle Challenge in 2021 right after my wife, Joan, survived the surgery that removed her second tumor in her throat. In my grief for the loss she had just suffered, I had to do something to fight back against cancer. Riding my bike/trike was the only way I had. So, I rode.
I continue to ride. I continue to raise money for this important cause.
Please join me by making a generous donation to this campaign. If you prefer, a donation to one of the other great organizations that do cancer research is also a great idea. (The V Foundation, The American Cancer Society, The Komen Foundation)
We have to do this for our children and our grandchildren.
