What a month!! I did it!! I road 305 miles this month!
It was a challenge coming back without any training or riding my bike in over a year!! Not to mention the extra weight I carried too! My whole body hurt everyday. I wanted to quit but quitting was not an option. What kept me focused was Layila. Her Mom posted what she was going through with her treatment. It’s heartbreaking to see. Layila helped me push through and finish what I started. She is my HERO!
Also my husband Carlos, my backbone, who helped me by meeting me at destination spots to help curve the long hauls. He rescued me when I got flats and he helped get my bike ready for this challenge. Today he surprised me at a cross road where rush hour on this two way bridge can be scary. He escorted me across that bridge using our car to shield me from traffic! How cool is that? I am grateful for his thoughtfulness. All month long, over this bridge, I had drivers honked at me and using their car to come near me to scare me for impeding traffic. 😤. I am glad I no longer have to ride over this bridge.
I am thankful for all my Supporters who helped reach my fundraising goal! You all motivated me as well and keep me focused no matter how much my body hurt. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Layila I will be celebrating with you when your treatment comes to an end soon! You are my real HERO!
Mission Accomplished!
Back on the road! It felt good to be on my bike again! And today I am sporting my new bike! She’s a beauty and rides so SMOOTH! I have to be careful with her because I have no protection against flats. ☹️ I only have 4 days to go and 62 miles to go! 😬 All these flats have put a crinkle in my ride! 😤 As frustrating as it may be, I do think of the kids and their parents when a treatment is not working and other measures need to be taken. It must be devastating and frustrating. Kids should not be fighting cancer, they should be having fun being kids. Let’s DO this!
Today took an unexpected turn of events with my riding. Last night on my way home, my rear tire had a flat! I was SO pumped and ready to ride home as Wednesdays are the only days I ride all the way home. All other days I pick a destination and I meet Carlos for dinner. I have a new ride and as much as I tried to get it ready, the rear tire needed adjustment. Came to work in a car. I guess I was forced to give my body rest. As disappointed as I was this morning, I looked at my stats and I have to be proud of what I have accomplished so far. 28 rides, and 224 miles down! The month isn’t over and I have 72 miles to go with 5 days remaining to finish the Great Cycle Challenge. And to put things into perspective how many kids fighting cancer wish they can have a break from treatment when they can no longer feel strong. I imagine my Super Star Layila can’t wait for a break too. Things didn’t happen the way I planned but tomorrow is another day and I will be back on my bike 🚲! Pedal, pedal, pedal!
Ending the week with 111 miles completed this week! Not bad!
Lots of aches and pains but I muscled through. Took one day of rest due to weather but got back at it today! I left work and ended my riding short and sweet to have dinner with my handsome guy! 🥰
I’m really happy with my mileage this week. Hopefully next week I can finish and reach my riding goal.
No riding this week, my grand babies are coming over. And this Nana is going to spoiled them!

Today was my longest ride going to work and coming home. It started riding to Azusa/APU train station to South Pasadena and trek on my bike to work for 10 miles.
On the way home, I road to El Monte to King Taco to meet Carlos for dinner. Part of my ride was down Peck Road from Longden to one block before Ramona Blvd. 16 miles for a total of 26 miles today!! 🎉
What a ride! Cars are crazy as ever. Always rushing to only end up at the same signal light. 🤷🏻♀️
Tomorrow will be another day of mileage.
It felt good to ride home from work. But the SADDLE!!! 😂🤭 It’s going to take some time to get used it. Lycra is not an option for me anymore. I stopped short of my destination to meet my Handsome guy for dinner at Casa Jimenez in Monrovia. 😋 The waiters were impressed how far I was coming from. 😁 Tomorrow will another opportunity to get more miles!
I can’t believe I am riding my bike to work!. The cars get me nervous as they zoom near me. I’ve been cut off twice by cars just to make a right turn? 😠 Looking forward to next week as I start riding home from work. This week was baby steps and getting used to riding with traffic. No riding for me this weekend because my grand kids are coming over tonight to spend the whole weekend with me. Can’t wait! Check back next week to see how I did going home! 🚴🏼♀️
Although the Great Cycle Challenge officially started yesterday, today was my first day riding to work and home using the Metrolink train. Felt good to get back on the saddle but the saddle was not my friend! 😂 It will take me a few days or weeks to get used to it again. Can’t wait to do it again tomorrow.
Hello Family and Friends, I’m back again. This is my 9th year participating in this great challenge. I am very passionate to do it again because I think of the children who are fighting this horrible disease. I have many family and friends that have fought the fight and/or are still fighting cancer. Imagine a child going through it. It’s heartbreaking. This year I am riding for Layila Romanek, a brave young girl. She is currently going through a tough treatment. With her strength and bravery, I will ride in her honor! Please help me reach my goal and I will do my part and reach my riding goal, which will be a challenge for me. Thank you and follow me through this challenge.
