September 2021 in celebration of my 50th birthday I participated in my first Great Cycle Challenge. My initial goal to raise $500 and ride 500 miles turned into a passion to KICK CANCERS BUTT!

My first ride was in honor of my sorority sister Stephanie (Cooke) Ream, a childhood cancer survivor and teacher. I then dedicated the month to honor my amazing co-worker Joan Antonson who was giving it her all battling pancreatic cancer. Sadly she passed June 12th, 2023.

At the end of the month, September, 2021, on my last sunrise cycle I was blessed to meet a fellow GCC rider and cancer survivor, LeeAnn Hart Dauito. My second year, 2022 was dedicated to her. She is a warrior/survivor of lung cancer and brain cancer continuing to compete as a triathlete and hiked Mt. Kilimanjaro in the Freedom Challenge.

During my second year riding, 2022 I enjoyed meeting fellow cyclists on the road, spotting their colorful jerseys and on social media learning their stories. As a mom of three I was very touched to meet Amanda Sullivan, mom of cancer survivor Izzy. Watching my second daughter go away to college last year, was tough. But I can't imagine watching one of my kids fight cancer! My third year, 2023, was dedicated to them.

This past year I have spent all of my time in the gym lifting with coach Barb and no longer cycling. I did not plan to participate in the challenge, concerned I’m not ready for the miles and can’t continue to solicit donations. When I learned the coach that inspires me every day was diagnosed with HER-2+ breast cancer and was immediately ready to face the fight, I knew I had to join the challenge.
