I'm Riding For
Kay Dodge and Rose Coursey
I am riding this year for my aunt Kay Dodge and my mom Rose Coursey. I rode for my mom last year after her 2nd diagnosis. She is still working to kick cancer's butt. My aunt was just recently diagnosed and she too is taking the attitude of kicking this things butt. I figure I will use them both as inspiration to complete my miles, spread the word and hopefully meet my fundraising goal. It seems right now cancer is all around of us. I have other family members, friends and aquaintences and seems like we hear about a new person dealing with this weekly or even sometimes daily. Sometimes I wonder if we can ever find a cure. What I do know is sitting on my butt won't help.....so I am doing something.....hoping that my small contribution can make some kind of a differerence in others lives. While this charity is about children, it still encourages support an awareness for all that have cancer.
My Story
Like every year, this September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! This will be my 7th year. This is a wonderful cause that works to support research to help prevent childhood cancer.
Right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from diseases in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
I have had my own journey with cancer as an adult and I cannot imagine the strain that is put on a family dealing with a small child with cancer. I made it through my journey and I want to help others make it through theirs.
This year I am riding 1000 miles in the month of September and my personal goal is to raise $6000 with a team goal of $7000.
Every year I set goals I am not sure I can meet. So far each year I have exceeded my donations miles and goal. This year I wanted to keep a big miles commitment, but due to an inujry I am having to lower my miles. I am going to do my best to meet that goal. I am working on seeing how I can recover to be ready for September. Regardless, donations are what is most important.
I promise to push myself like crazy to work for every dollar you donate. I will post my progress often and you can go to my page at any point you see how I am doing. I will take donations, encouragement, yee-haws, and cheers; the kids love to see all the miles we rack up!
So far local businesses who have donated $, services or products. Gruff Brewing (Bellingham), Joy's Bakery (Sedro Woolley), Touch of Dutch Coupeville), local painter (Woodinville) and a local quilter (Seattle), I am making a quilt (Sedro Woolley), a signed Lou Gramm guitar (New York) and a collection of books from Rea Thomson (Oregon).
