My dad, Felipe Mejia
My dad was a very physically active person who enjoyed going for hikes, walk, and bike rides! He encouraged me to live a healthy lifestyle growing up. Which I have done my best to forgo, even when juggling school and multiple jobs. Participating in this challenge is to keep his memory live, but also assure that other families don't lose their little one to cancer the way I lost my dad.
My Story
This September, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
From 2019 to 2021, I saw my dad fight against cancer to have a second chance at life. He had stage 4 renal carcinoma. Although his chances of survival were low, he fought with his soul and spirit every day to live.
Prior to his diagnosis, my dad and I would often go hiking, walking, or cycling together. He taught me the importance of living a healthy and active life.
Seeing my dad go through cancer treatment and eventually passing due to the cancer makes this challenge very special to me. I know the kind of hope that families hold when they find out that their child has cancer and begins treatment. So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund to allow them to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
