My Story

Friends and Family,

For the month of September, I'm taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to help fight kids' cancer. Every ride I take will be done in memory of Caroline Cronk. In 2013, Calle lost her fight with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma). Calle was the young daughter of two very close friends, Kevin and Rachael Cronk. I graduated from HS with Kevin in 1989, and I've considered him a brother for a very long time. Calle was 5 years old.

I'm also riding in honor of my father who passed away on Sunday, July 20th. The following Monday I went for a ride, and on that ride my Dad decided to join me. I felt him looking over my shoulder. I could see his face and hear his laughter as I pushed one of the best lines of the summer, and Dad was young again. His 80's era, mint-condition Specialized HardRock still hangs in my parents' garage. So while he never took up riding like I did, he always quizzed me on it and showed genuine interest. That Monday, Dad got his chance to see what it was all about.

The next day I received my annual notice of the Great Cycle Challenge.

This is my first Challenge and I have a day job, so I've set a mountain biking goal of 150m and $1000. THERE IS NO CEILING, however, and I would be grateful to everyone if we raised more. Every dollar goes toward the Children's Cancer Research Fund.
