My Story
This September, I am embarking on my 6th year participating in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? In the summer of 2020 I discovered an affinity for biking and was blessed to stumble across this revolutionary cause. I have been blown away by the true kinship amongst the community of riders as well as the support and generosity of my family and friends. Thankfully, I do not personally know a child struggling with cancer but I have family and friends who have battled this ugly monster and I know how hard it can be on the body, mind and soul. Over the last 5 years I have watched many children handle this battle with a level of strength, hope and grace that I only pray I can strive to one day. Their stories inspire my ride!
Right now, cancer is the biggest killer of children from disease in the United States. Over 15,700 children are diagnosed every year, and sadly, 38 children die of cancer every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support Children's Cancer Research Fund. I am only one person but with my voice I can give awareness to this cause and the money I raise will allow Children's Cancer Research Fund to continue their work to develop lifesaving treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.

This year, cancer hits closer to home.
10 Sep 2025I'm blessed to say I’ve never personally known a child with cancer. I ride because kids should be living life, not fighting for it. While I can still only imagine what these children and their families are going through, this year, one of my fur babies was diagnosed with cancer.
On August 15th, Nala was diagnosed with lymphoma. At the time, her only symptom was swollen lymph nodes, and our vet is hopeful we may have a few more months with her. Lymphoma isn’t curable, and since she is at least 12 years old (closer to 84 in dog years), we’ve decided not to put her through the testing, poking, and prodding required to pursue chemo. Instead, we’ve started her on prednisone along with some holistic treatments, doing our best to give her the highest quality of life for as long as God grants her to stay with us.
While Nala is like a child to me and her diagnosis has been difficult, she’s had a good life—and this experience still doesn’t compare to what families with children fighting cancer endure. It’s just a small glimpse into their reality, and it’s incredibly humbling.
