family and friends we've lost to cancer
My Story
Call me crazy, but once again I will be riding my bicycle in the Great Cycle Challenge to raise money for research into causes, treatments, and cures for childhood cancer. During September, for the 6th consecutive year, I will join thousands of riders worldwide who are supporting the Children's Cancer Research Fund by asking our friends, colleagues, and relatives to support our rides with donations to the Fund.
This will be my last year to ride in the 70 to 79 age bracket, but I intend to keep riding until we have a cure for this disease that is the leading cause of death by illness in American children, taking nearly 2000 kids annually. I'll be thrilled if I can complete this challenge - if I do, my overall milage will surpass 1000 miles and my fundraising efforts will exceed $10,000 overall! Most important of all, we will help fund the research that is so important to the children and their families who anxiously seek better treatment protocols and a cure for the children's sake.

Week 2 - September 8 - 13
14 Sep 2025I am happy to report that week 2 of the 2025 Great Cycle Challenge for kid's cancer research went well. I was able to cycle 58.27 miles since my last report, so I just have 62 miles to go! And on the fundraising front, thanks to so many generous friends and anonymous donors, I need less than $300 to meet the goal!
I'm going to try to ride the Legacy Trail in Florida this week and if I can do that I should finish up the riding this week or next! Unlike last year I've not had to work around hurricanes this time, and I hope nothing erupts this season at all.
Hoping for good weather and a clear bike lane. See you next week.
